Dave Dobson wears many hats at Masters Entertainment Group. Dave produces and directs most of MEG’s programming, often while also serving as on-camera talent. As Vice President, he heads up the company’s entire Production Department.
Dave came to Masters Entertainment Group in 2018, riding 26 years of radio and television experience. It all started with his love for motorsports. After watching the 1982 Indianapolis 500, he wanted to be an IndyCar driver. Realizing in the next few years that it takes talent, money, and courage to race (and he possessed marginal talent, limited courage, and NO money), he contemplated other plans. When a television reporter moved in next door, Dave quickly realized he would go in that direction. Shortly thereafter, the light bulb came on. He realized he could combine his love for television with his passion for racing. He set out to pursue a career in motorsports broadcasting. In fact, in his high school yearbook, when asked where he’d be in ten years, he wrote that he would be “producing motorsports for ESPN” and he also wrote “part-time racing driver.”
Like Babe Ruth, the Akron, Ohio native had called his shot. After obtaining a BAC in Telecommunications at Bowling Green State University, he connected with ESPN, working as a freelance researcher for the X Games, while working full-time as a radio news anchor. After a successful run in two different X Games, ESPN came calling again. THIS time, it was a full-time job. During his career in production at ESPN, Dave worked on Motorsports like Formula One, NASCAR, and the IRL, spending 17 years working on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, and serving for several years as an associate producer on the Indianapolis 500. Dave’s ESPN career also afforded him opportunities to work on the NCAA soccer and wrestling National Championships, NCAA softball and basketball, and NCAA football, where he worked primarily as a producer, but also as a sideline reporter.
After 22 years at ESPN, Dave and his wife, Susanna decided it was time for a change of scenery. They headed for Masters Entertainment Group and the mountains of East Tennessee. In his time at MEG, Dave has produced and hosted hundreds of individual episodes, including series like the Menards Chevy Show, the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, TopCoat’s Magnificent Machines, Performance TV, Brand New Muscle Car, Tech Garage, and Motorhead Garage. He also produces, directs, and sometimes acts as Technical Director for MEG’s live coverage of everything from cheerleading to NCAA Basketball to auto auctions.
Dave enjoys his job, but his true joy is spending time with Susanna and their two young children. Dave’s travels have taken him to 47 states (Look out, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana!) The Dobsons love traveling together and have enjoyed discovering hidden gems across the US and Canada. On a typical day off, you can find the family enjoying the great outdoors or attending a live concert.
